Foot injuries

Ok, so here I am recuperating from surgery and taking short walks to build strength and stamina. Out of the blue, for no apparent reasons, and not because of a stumble, trip, fall or twist, my left foot became extremely painful and I could not walk. with a lot of TLC and a visit to get an x-ray that showed no broken bones, I am finally able, after four days, to move around with  a cane.
So what would you do, if on a long walk, you suffered a foot or leg injury? Needless to say, you need to get off your feet. RICE (Rest, ice, compression and elevation) are recommended but if this is impossible, what can you do - especially if you are alone?
Stop. Call for help. Stay put...try to find a log or bench or something and sit down, proppong the foot or leg. Breathe deeply. Wrap the area in some kind of cloth. Wait for help...be patient.
Now those are simply my suggestions...what are yours?
