Geoffrey started the training diary on May 23 and two months later decided to set a goal of making the total miles walked, from May 23 to the start of Feet of Memory, equal the distance to be covered  - 2400 miles. So today the total to be covered stands at 2025 and the number of days left, 233. That means averaging 8.69 miles per day from now on.
The lovely Ohio and Erie Canal towpath - where the best training happens

The longest walk so far has been 20 miles and rest days have come round with alarming frequency  - but the advice on ultra distance walking training is to put long walks back to back and see how the body copes. So this evening, when the heat dies a little, Geoffrey will walk 12 miles and that will bring the average needed down to 8.69 miles per day.
The old canal - built in 1823 and now a ruin- but the towpath is highly popular
